# Assessment Instructions: ASTR 120 Problem Set 03

## Inputs to Inspect

- Student submission for Problem Set 03.
- Student problem set: `materials/ASTR120/problem-sets/problem-set-03.html`.
- Instructor solution key: `materials/ASTR120/problem-sets/problem-set-03-solutions.html`.
- Course syllabus and grading policy: `materials/ASTR120/syllabus.html`.
- Lecture artifacts for Lectures 05-06.

## Grading Standard

Assess crater-count arithmetic, stratigraphic reasoning, atmospheric escape calculations, climate interpretation, units, assumptions, and clarity. Full credit requires both calculation and physical meaning.

## Problem-Level Criteria

- Problem 1: check crater density units, ratio, relative age inference, and preservation assumptions.
- Problem 2: check event order and use of cross-cutting/superposition evidence.
- Problem 3: check escape-speed formula, ranking, and atmospheric-retention caveats.
- Problem 4: check inverse-square solar flux, albedo calculation, factor of four, and greenhouse interpretation.

## Feedback Requirements

Separate arithmetic slips from conceptual errors such as confusing absorbed flux with surface temperature or assuming crater counts are absolute ages. Give actionable revision targets.

## Integrity and Evidence Checks

Flag copied diagrams, unsupported outside data, unlabeled calculations, or image interpretations that do not follow from stated relationships.

## Resubmission Pathway

Students may revise and resubmit with a change note. Feedback should identify the missing reasoning step or assumption without simply supplying all corrected text.
