# ASTR 472 Problem Set 03 Assessment Instructions

Inspect the submission, this problem set, solution key, the associated lecture slides/notes, cited catalog/data product, and any submitted code.

## Standard
Grade at a senior undergraduate level. Require the physical model, unit-consistent derivation, correct frame/convention, a numerical result consistent with the shown work, and interpretation. Reward a correct method with a minor arithmetic slip more than an unexplained correct-looking answer.

## Problem-specific checks
- Problem 1 (Visibility phase): verify the governing relation, units, and stated validity domain.
- Problem 2 (Resolution versus scale): recompute the central value and uncertainty independently; check comparison direction.
- Problem 3 (Inverse problem): require the requested alternative-model, uncertainty, or synthesis discussion, not a generic paragraph.

## Evidence and reproducibility
Check citations, dataset release/version, units, masks, code inputs, random seed where relevant, and figure axes. Flag claims that conflate a teaching record, catalog measurement, calibrated product, and physical inference.

## Feedback and resubmission
Separate arithmetic, unit conversion, conceptual model, uncertainty, provenance, and communication errors. Give actionable feedback without replacing the student's reasoning. One revised submission with a change log is encouraged; preserve the original high standard and follow the instructor's grading policy.
